Labuan (for my international readers) is a federal territory of Malaysia off the coast of Borneo in East Malaysia. It's located off the coast of the state of Sabah. Labuan's capital is Victoria and is best known as an offshore financial centre offering international financial and business services as well as being an offshore support hub for deepwater oil and gas activities in the region. and chocolate & alcohol paradise!

Labuan is accessible via air & sea.

By Air
1. Direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan.
The flight will normally take around 2 hours and 20 minutes, operated by Malaysia Airlines, which depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Sometimes, there will be only one flight direct from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan, usually morning time. The rest of the flights, you will have to transit at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Miri & Brunei.

2..By Air (MASwings - expensive but super fast)
If you are from Kota Kinabalu City, depart from Kota Kinabalu International Airport to Labuan. The flight normally will take around 30 minutes.

By the Sea
Which has two stations and one crazy ride:

a)First Station: Travel by Ferry from Kota Kinabalu City (Jesselton Point Terminal) - to Labuan. This trip will take around 3 hours.
Click here for ferry schedule & fare for your reference.

b)Second Station: Drive from Kota Kinabalu City to  Menumbok Town (approximately around 2 hours) and then depart from Menumbok Ferry Terminal to Labuan Island by Car ferry. This journey will take around 2 hours or less (depend on the weather, tide). The ferry will depart approximately around 6.00 am, 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Inside the ferry, they also sell snacks & foods. You can watch TV or just enjoy the ride & breeze on the top of the ferry! Nice & relaxing!

c) If you dare, depart from the same station at (b) but use small speed boat! What a bumpy ride! Recommended if you want to arrive early at Labuan. The journey will take around 45 minutes!

So, what options that I would recommend to you? I would say option, B. You know why? Driving to Menumbok gives you the opportunity to experience panorama along the way. Stop by at little shops along the road. buy some snacks, coconut and stuffs. Travel by Car Ferry from Menumbok Ferry Terminal (http://labuanisland.net/getting-to-labuan-ft/menumbok-labuanft-vehicle/), would be a good choice if you are not in a hurry. Like us, we depart from KK City at 2.00 am and arrive at Menumbok Ferry Terminal at 4.00 am, Sleep in the car, drink my tea while chatting with others drivers and travellers who already been there from 2.00 am! All fighting to be board on the first ferry, as they say, the sunrise is beautiful!
